There’s no such thing as a dead cert in the world of betting but it would appear that, like Queens Park Rangers themselves, Ladbrokes is confident that Jermain Defoe will be heading to Loftus Road come January.
The Toronto FC forward has found himself once again linked with a return to the Premier League with the Hoops, amid reports from the Evening Standard claiming Rangers are “confident” of bringing the ex-England international back to London.
And that confidence is seemingly echoed by Ladbrokes, with the bookmaker pricing the 32-year-old at 6/4 to join the Rs once the mid-season transfer window opens.
Defoe was rumoured to be close to moving to the club prior to the summer deadline, but instead opted to stay in Canada with his current MLS employers.
The former Portsmouth man is thought to be open to a move after seeing former manager and friend Ryan Nelsen sacked by the club following a string of poor results.
And with Toronto out of the playoff picture in the MLS it appears that Defoe is in no mood to hang around, with a return to the Premier League offering the forward a potential way back into the international setup.
Defoe missed out on a place in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad after opting to move to the US and will be looking to hit the ground running with QPR or any other potential club should he return to English shores.
He will have been encouraged by the continued presence of veteran forward Ricky Lambert in Roy Hodgson’s plans, while a scoring start to life back in the Premier League could go some way to silencing any doubters.
Despite incurring several injuries during his time in the MLS, Defoe has nevertheless proven largely prolific with 11 goals in 19 appearances for Toronto to date.
But with the honeymoon period well and truly over Stateside, now could be the time to back the Beckton boy for a capital return.
