It seems the Blackburn Rovers owners are keen on Steve Kean and the betting market places him at 2/1 to become the next permanent Blackburn manager.
Comments from the club’s new Indian owners Venky’s suggest Kean will have an extended trial as Blackburn manager and the board are willing to give him some time to assert his authority.
“We will give Steve Kean three months to prove his mettle,” said Venky’s chairman Anuradha Desai.
“If he does well and proves himself, there is no doubt in our mind that he will be manager forever.”
However should Kean not take to management in the way the Blackburn board are expecting him too, and Kean has no experience as a manager, then the next permanent Blackburn manager betting market offers plenty of value.
Having won a Premier League title in his time at Blackburn, Alan Shearer would be a huge hit with most of the fans should he take over and is 8/1 in the betting, along with Cardiff City’s Dave Jones.
Martin Jol is 6/1 in the betting to become the next permanent Blackburn manager but Venky’s have confirmed that their preference is for a British manager to take charge which would seemingly rule out Jol.
Alan Curbishley seems like a strong candidate considering he’s without a club and has stated his desire to get back into management – at 12/1 Curbishley offers plenty of value.
The Blackburn faithful will be hopeful of a more glamorous appointment as the club targets becoming a top five team and Curbishley may not go down to well with the fans.
However, should Kean fail to impress over the next few months then Blackburn will find themselves in a precarious position and the real value is in backing Blackburn for relegation at 10/1.
