Italian defender could be final piece in Cardiff City jigsaw

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been the busiest manager in the Premier League so far, having brought in seven new faces in a bid to mount a survival bid.
Cardiff are rooted to the bottom of the table with just 18 points but with just six points between them and 11th-placed Swansea there is still plenty of hope of retaining their top flight status.
New manager Solskjaer has boosted those hopes by bringing in Manchester United duo Fabio da Silva and Wilfried Zaha – the latter completing a loan deal earlier today – as well as Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Moller Daehi, Jo Inge Berget and Kenwyne Jones.
However, the former Molde boss is looking to bring in one more player with Cagliari defender Davide Astori top of the list.
The 27-year-old, who started his career at AC Milan, has been a solid presence for I Rossoblu in Serie A since making the switch from the San Siro in 2008
The Italy international has made more than 140 appearances in Italy’s top flight and as he reaches his peak years could be tempted to strutt his stuff in the Premier League.
Cardiff have kept just one clean sheet in nine games and if they are to move off the foot of the table, shoring up the defence is a priority.
The six signings recently brought to the club by former United player Solskjaer are all attack-minded, including left back Fabio, so the capture of Astori would go a huge way to pleasing fans ahead of a crunch six-pointer with Norwich.
The Bluebirds are priced at 5/4 to secure a much-needed home win over the Canaries and with winnable matches against Swansea, Aston Villa and Hull to follow the Welsh side’s 4/5 odds for relegation could soon start to drift.
