Islam Slimani passes Leicester City medical – what can Foxes expect?

Published:

He’s been linked with a whole host of top-flight clubs in England, including Arsenal and West Brom, but Islam Slimani has this evening reportedly passed his medical at Premier League champions Leicester City, in a deal thought to be worth around £30m – a club record.

The Foxes have managed to keep hold of all but one of their key players from last year’s title-winning campaign, and have already added £40m worth of talent this window.

So who exactly is Slimani, and what can Leicester fans expect from their new man?

Ladbrokes News has compiled a quick profile on Claudio Ranieri’s latest signing.

Name – Islam Slimani

Age – 28

Nationality – Algerian

Previous clubs – Sporting Lisbon, CR Belouizdad

Total league appearances/goals – 179/80

Total international appearances/goals – 31/24

Key strengths – Possesses aerial threat, quick, excellent movement, injury-free.

With a Champions League campaign set to test the club’s depth this year, the decision to expand their options looks a savvy one from the east Midlands outfit.

Slimani fired in a whopping 27 goals in the Primeira Liga last term, helping Sporting finish second, and teaming up with Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Ahmed Musa means Leicester boast one of the quickest attacks in the league.

So is that it for Leicester in this summer’s transfer window? An estimated £70m has been spent since close of play last season would suggest so – but with four hours to go – who knows what could happen?
