Manchester United’s obvious need for a potent goal threat has seen the club linked with all manner of mega stars in recent weeks.
On any given day the Old Trafford club are reportedly readying a bid for Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar or in some cases all three – but new reports suggest the Red Devils’ primary target is a former Liverpool fan favourite.
According to today’s headlines, Manchester United are going to go all out next summer in a bid to convince Luis Suarez to turn his back on Barcelona and have another crack at winning the Premier League with his old club’s arch rivals.
United are prepared to spend big in order to see the glory days return to Old Trafford and with Suarez costing the Catalan giants a cool £75m and scoring for fun since arriving at the Nou Camp it is clear the Uruguayan would not come cheap.
A hefty stumbling block is the 28-year-old’s Anfield affiliation but there is no doubting that if United could get the deal done it would be a major coup and inject some much-needed potency to their ailing attack.
Whether or not it is current manager Louis van Gaal who is tasked with luring Suarez back to England, however, remains to be seen.
After seeing his side crash out of the Champions League and go down meekly to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend the Dutchman’s position is under increasing scrutiny.
Reports suggest United are stepping up their pursuit of Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola, while another school of thought claims out-of-work Carlo Ancelotti will be drafted in to boost United’s chances of landing a big fish in the summer.
Van Gaal is likely to be given the rest of the season to prove he is the man to lead United back to glory but with his side a distant 9/1 to win the Premier League it’s clear he has his work cut out to prove the doubters wrong.
