With Manchester United’s stuttering start to the season, Chelsea have become early favourites to power their way towards consecutive Premier League titles.
But while Man Utd continue to find their feet, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are keeping pace with the Premier League’s big hitters.
And after their win against Fulham on Saturday, Tom Huddlestone believes that Spurs should be targeting a push for the title and shouldn’t settle for a place in the top four.
“If we can be a bit more consistent, because we’ve dropped a few sloppy points, then why not?” said Huddlestone.
“Title contenders? That’s a big statement to make, but the way the season is going, everybody keeps taking points off each other.”
Spurs are a mighty big price at 50/1 to win the Premier League, and Manchester City’s early season form suggests they are the team most likely to disrupt Arsenal and Man Utd as they look to chase down Chelsea.
But last season’s fourth place finish will help Spurs, with the side having the experience of feeling a lot of pressure come April and May when the expectation levels rise.
We’ve seen Arsenal’s youngsters wilt under the pressure of challenging for a title, and it remains to be seen whether Man City can keep up their early season form.
But Spurs will take confidence from last season and will target an improvement on last year.
Spurs go to Inter Milan on Wednesday for the first of their double headers with the Italian and European champions, and the next two weeks could prove pivotal as Spurs look to set-up a successful season.
Spurs are the 4/1 underdogs to win in the San Siro, but face Everton and Man Utd before Inter return to White Hart Lane, and the next two weeks will be the making or breaking of Spurs’ season.
Inter are 4/6 to beat Spurs on Wednesday. See the full Barclays Premier League football betting odds market here.
