Holtby in, Berbatov out, but Fulham still planning more moves
Published:It’s been a hive of activity at Craven Cottage as the transfer window winds towards a dramatic conclusion, but Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen is still intent on shaking things up further, with Everton’s Johhny Heitinga the latest to hold talks.
The versatile Dutch defender is rumoured to be in contact with Fulham, as he searches for a loan move away from Goodison Park before the hour glass runs out on the January transfer window.
Capturing Heitinga’s signature would be the second major import of deadline day for the Premier League flounderers, who have already confirmed they’ve housed Tottenham misfit Lewis Holtby on loan until the end of the season.
Holtby will get his first chance to impress the Fulham faithful at home to Southampton in the top flight – where the Whites are priced up at 9/4 to claim a maximum points-haul.
Increasingly likely to be heading in the opposite direction is striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The one-time record signing for Manchester United had been linked with a swarm of clubs during January, but appears to have opted for a move to French club Monaco.
The brooding Bulgarian will be used to fill the gap vacated by injured Colombian striker Radamel Falcao at the Stade Louis II.
Meanwhile, reliable Fulham servant Aaron Hughes has made the small trip to join QPR on a short-term deal, making the Heitinga move all the more likely.
And with Berba expected to be confirmed at Monaco by the day’s end, Fulham’s representatives are still working hard to bring in prolific Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglou, though West Ham are poised to try and gazump the move.
