Forgotten Barcelona man reaffirms status as Liverpool target

Published:

A couple of months back the notions that Liverpool could win the Premier League and would be looking to recruit Barcelona outcast Bojan Krkic this summer raised many a chuckle among football fans and punters alike – but no one is laughing now.

A superb 4-0 home win over one-time top four rivals Tottenham has seen the Reds move to 15/8 to win the title at Ladbrokes, with the Merseysiders two points clear of second placed Chelsea and four ahead of 4/5 favourites Manchester City, who have two games in hand.

Bojan, meanwhile, has set about making himself hot property with a series of impressive displays for Ajax that has seen many reconsidering their opinion on the former Barcelona prodigy.

A graduate of the La Masia academy, the 23-year-old impressed during his first three seasons with the Catalan club, scoring 10 goals or more on each occasion from the wing.

However with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and the continued popularity of Pedro, he soon found first-team opportunities limited, embarking on disastrous season-long loans with AS Roma and AC Milan, where he failed to rediscover the form that had made him one to watch.

Another temporary move to Ajax was greeted with scepticism by some, however slowly but surely Bojan is returning to the kind of form that made him such hot property.

And while the rejuvenation may not be complete, his performance and goal in the Amsderdam club’s 3-0 win over Twente went some way to signalling the start of a comeback for a player with arguably his best years ahead of him.

A move to Liverpool could yet come to fruition with Brendan Rodgers not averse to picking up a bargain from the football transfer world’s damaged goods aisle.

Philippe Coutinho was rotting in the Inter Milan reserves until Liverpool made a move for the Brazilian while even Daniel Sturridge was struggling for game time until his transfer to Anfield.

With Bojan available at a bargain price, back among the goals and keen to kick start his career, don’t be surprised to see the Barca man arrive on Merseyside and who knows? He may even find a Premier League title in the trophy cabinet when he arrives.
