Deadline Day betting suspended on David Luiz returning to Chelsea

Ladbrokes have suspended the Deadline Day betting on David Luiz making a sensation return to Chelsea.

A deal had been 5/4 as daybreak broke, but the move looks now to have been all but sealed.

The Brazilian centre-half left Stamford Bridge in 2014, as he didn’t fit Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Luiz had helped the club win the Champions League and Europa League however, and remains a popular figure in west London.

The deal is Chelsea’s third major deal of the summer, having already signed N’Golo Kante from reigning champions Leicester and Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The first major gamble of deadline day has taken shape and football fans are all banking on an announcement coming out of Chelsea sooner rather than later.

“The money we’ve seen in the last few minutes suggests Luiz is on his way back to Stamford Bridge as we speak.”

Chelsea are 9/2 third favourites to win this season’s Premier League, odds which make look much more favourable with Luiz on board.
