Claude Puel early favourite for Watford job

Leicester City odds

Former Leicester City boss Claude Puel is now favourite to become Watford’s next permanent manager.

Following Nigel Pearson’s shock dismissal, our traders have priced up Watford’s next gaffer and it’s former Southampton and Foxes man Puel who heads the betting at 9/4.

The Frenchman is known for his pragmatic style of play but never came close to relegation in his two stints in the Premier League.

Chris Hughton has been installed as the early second favourite at 5/1, while former Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley and Sam Allardyce are 8/1 apiece.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Getting rid of Pearson with two games to go is something of a head-scratcher but that’s exactly what Watford have done, and it looks like Puel will soon be stepping in if the latest odds are anything to go by.”

Watford are still three points clear of the relegation zone with Hayden Mullins set to be in the dugout to face Manchester City and Arsenal in their final two games of the season.

But looking ahead to next season is Puel the right man to take the club forward?
