Chelsea to make shock late swoop for Marseille strike star

Loic Remy has been linked with a Premier League move for the best part of a year, and his transfer could finally materialise tonight.

What is most surprising about the Marseille forward’s potential switch is the destination, as Chelsea have seemingly come from nowhere to steal a march on their rivals for his signature.

Tottenham were long believed to be in pole position to land the French international, who has scored 27 times in just 60 appearances for his current club.

It was thought that Spurs faced competition from Arsenal and Manchester City for the striker, but the Blues have emerged from nowhere with an 11th hour bid.

And according to reports in France, Remy could be a Chelsea player by the time the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.

The Blues are currently in France ahead of their European Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid tonight, and therefore negotiations are said to have moved at a rapid pace.

A fee of £15.8million is believed to have been agreed for the 25-year-old, who counts Lyon, Lens and Nice amongst his former clubs.

And Remy will have much to live up to at Stamford Bridge, set to become the first striker to join the Blues from Marseille since Didier Drogba back in 2004.

He would appear to have all the necessary attributes to be a success though, and Chelsea fans will likely get the chance to laud their new signing sooner rather than later.
