With Chelsea seemingly having no problems in attack so far this season, they are planning to sure up their defence with an offer for Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
Reports suggest that Carlo Ancelotti is ready to offer £35m for the Spanish World Cup winner, who would serve as a more than capable replacement for Ricardo Carvalho who recently moved in the other direction to Madrid.
The lure of big wage packet could tempt Ramos to London, with Chelsea preparing to offer the defender £8m a season for five years to sign at Stamford Bridge.
Ramos could operate at either right-back or at the heart of the defence, but would be likely to play in the former as Jose Bosingwa continues his recovery from a knee injury which has kept him out for almost a year.
However, Real manager Jose Mourinho will be keen to keep Ramos as he looks to assemble a squad that can challenge for La Liga honours, particularly after completing deals for German duo Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil during the close season.
Chelsea have made a hugely impressive start to the Premier League season with back-to-back 6-0 victories over West Brom and Wigan, with Stoke the next club hoping to fare better.
They are 5/4 to successfully defend the Premier League crown they won last season, although Ancelotti has previously stated that a Champions League triumph is his biggest goal.
Chelsea fell at the last 16 stage during the last campaign to eventual winners Inter Milan and are 6/1 to improve on this and win the tournament for the first time in May.
Real Madrid are valued at 9/2 to win the Champions League for the first time since 2002 and the tenth time in their history. See the full Champions League winners market.
