Chelsea’s betting odds to win the Premier League have shortened from 9/1 to 7/1 after their 4-0 demolition of Bolton and captain John Terry believes that they are still leading contenders.
In Chelsea’s favour is that they still have to play current leaders Manchester United twice and a victory in both of these matches will close the gap between the two to just a single point.
Terry told Sky Sports after the Bolton victory: “Manchester United are playing well at the moment and getting the right results, and a little bit of luck, so maybe that’ll turn.
“We’ve still got to play then twice and if we win both we’ll be right back in it.”
Chelsea have now seemingly turned a corner by winning their last three games in all competitions, but manager Carlo Ancelotti is fully aware that a number of other tough games await ahead of the double header with Manchester United.
First up is a trip to Sunderland and Chelsea should have no problem getting themselves motivated for the game after Steve Bruce’s team left Stamford Bridge with a 3-0 success earlier in the season.
Furthermore, Sunderland have lost just once at home in the Premier League this season, while only Chelsea and Manchester United have conceded fewer goals on their own patch.
A positive note for Chelsea is that they have triumphed at the Stadium of Light on each of their last five visits, while their defeat earlier in the campaign is their only loss against Sunderland in 13 meetings.
Other good news for Chelsea is that apart from their trip to Old Trafford, all of their other games against potential title rivals are at home, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all still to travel to Stamford Bridge.
