Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to strengthen their goalkeeping options in January with Chelsea ready to sell Petr Cech to the Gunners.

The Czech international stopper is currently acting as back-up for current Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois, who returned to Stamford Bridge after three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, but is ready to move in search of first-team action.

According to reports, Cech is very unhappy about his situation in west London and after being linked several times with a move away from the Blues, the Daily Star insists a deal has been agreed for a move across London to Arsenal.

And with the jury still out on Wojciech Szczesny’s credentials as Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper, Arsene Wenger is ready to boost his goalkeeping ranks with a £7m move for Cech.

The 32-year-old was on Wenger’s radar after a string of exceptional performances for Rennes but Chelsea won the race to his signature back in 2004.

Three Premier League titles later and 327 appearances in the bank Cech is ready to leave Chelsea in search of regular game time and Arsenal fit the bill.

Cech’s possible arrival at the Emirates Stadium throws huge doubt over Szczesny’s future in north London.

The Gunners, who are 11/2 to finish in the Premier League’s top two, signed Colombian international David Ospina, who performed impressively at last summer’s World Cup, to provide competition for Poland’s number one but Wenger’s interest will come as a huge blow to the 24-year-old.

Cech will not be leaving the Chelsea bench just to sit on the Arsenal equivalent so it seems any deal would see the former Sparta Prague keeper slot straight into Arsenal’s starting XI.

But after a fair few mistakes from the Pole in recent years, the potential arrival of a world class goalkeeper would be a huge boost to the Gunners’ chances of picking up silverware this season.
