Jurgen Klopp knows there aren’t any excuses now. He’s taken Liverpool to three finals during his time at the club, but he’s yet to win any silverware.
Klopp has recently spoken about the raised expectations ahead of the upcoming campaign and admitted that lifting a trophy is the next step for his team.
The Reds defied expectations to reach the Champions League Final last term. But after splashing the cash this summer, a league challenge is on the cards at Anfield.
Liverpool are 9/2 to lift the title for the first time since 1990. We’ve only got Manchester City ahead of them in the betting at 4/6.
The Merseyside club finished 25 points off City last term. They should be much closer this time around.
They’ve now got the most expensive goalkeeper and defender in history. Naby Keita and Fabinho have both come in for big money to bolster midfield. Xherdan Shaqiri adds depth in attacking areas too.
Liverpool have always been able to score goals under Klopp. They can blow teams away with their speed and energy when in full flow.
The problem has been keeping them out at the other end. Virgil van Dijk made an immediate improvement to their defence when he arrived in January. They’ll hope Alisson has a similar impact in goal.
On their day, Liverpool can beat anyone. They’ve faced Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking City side six times over the last two seasons and only lost once.
But can they perform week in, week out? If they can add more consistency, they could push the champions all the way.
