Brighton v Chelsea Betting Tips: Chelsea’s firing squad to down the Seagulls?

Chelsea get their much-anticipated 2020/21 Premier League campaign underway at Brighton & Hove Albion later.

It’s as if the Blues have been playing Football Manager in this current transfer window, signing an array of Europe’s best attacking players and a famous defensive stalwart to bolster their squad.

But despite the hysteria at Stamford Bridge, Brighton will hope to re-write the script and steal the three points…

Match Odds

If Chelsea, 9/1 to win the league this season, are to really challenge for the title then this is the type of test they need pass with flying colours. They’re 3/5 for victory and 3/1 to win with Over 3.5 goals in the game.

But this game did finish one apiece last season, with the draw also coming in at 3/1. A repeat of the 1-1 scoreline is 13/2.

Brighton did take the scalps of Arsenal, twice, and Tottenham in the previous campaign and are 9/2 to win here.

The home side like to play expansive football too and are 2/1 to hold the half-time advantage.

Talking Tactics

Graham Potter’s Brighton side will likely give a club debut to new signing Adam Lallana plus a start for Ben White, returning from his loan spell at Leeds United.

They’ll likely revert to a back-three with Lewis Dunk and Andy Webster alongside White. This should mean ex-Chelsea man Tariq Lamptey given license to roam on the right-hand side.

But with Davy Propper sidelined, we could see a midfield three including new signing Adam Lallana who’ll be hoping to keep his new side ticking.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s over-head kick in last season’s fixture won January’s Goal of the Month. He may have to come off the bench to make a similar impact tonight.

Chelsea will be without a clutch of new signings including Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva as they work on their fitness.

But the Blues fans should catch their first glimpse of German pair Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the Premier League.

Their busy injury list could mean Calum Hudson-Odoi starts on the wing. Whether it’s Werner, Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham playing as the number nine is one for Frank Lampard to chew over.

Goalscorer odds

Brighton striker Neal Maupay is 13/2 to score first and 12/5 anytime to hit the onion bag. Team-mate Aaron Connolly is chalked up at 7/2 anytime.

Fresh from making his debut for Belgium, Leandro Trossard is also 7/2 to get amongst the goals. There’s 9/2 about Alexis Mac Allister getting on the scoresheet.

As for the boys from the Kings Road, Werner’s 19/20 to get off and running anytime, with Havertz a 9/5 shout.

Abraham was Chelsea top scorer with 15 league goals last season and is 16/5 to open the scoring in this game.

Left back Marcos Alonso is 4/1 anytime with midfielder Mason Mount at 3s.
