Bilic says no deals, but Jackson Martinez’s West Ham link rumbles on

Published:

Coach Slaven Bilic may have said that West Ham’s transfer business is done for another window, but at just 5/2, our traders aren’t ruling out a move for Jackson Martinez.

The Hammers have spent all month trying to land a number of strikers, only to see each attempt fail.

And their misery was compounded by Dimitri Payet’s refusal to play and subsequent return to Marseille.

But after taking £25m from the Ligue 1 outfit, the Hammers do have money to spend, if they want to.

Martinez made a headline £40m move to the Chinese Super League last season, but the Colombian has failed to settle with Guanghzou Evergrande.

The former Atletico Madrid man has netted just four times in Asia, and it’s believed he has fallen out with the club and coach Luis Felipe Scolari.

It’s even been reported that the 30-year-old was offered to Chelsea last week.

With the Chinese Super League imposing new rules on the number of foreign players permitted at each club, any foreign player who does fall out is likely to be moved on rather quickly.

That could play into West Ham’s hands, should they choose to pursue a move.

Time is running out, but with the east Londoners also linked with a move for Dimitar Berbatov, we may yet see some activity at the London stadium tonight.

And there’ll certainly be plenty of activity tomorrow, when Manchester City visit the Hammers’ new home for the second time in four weeks.

While a repeat of the Emirates FA Cup hammering earlier this month is unlikely, odds of 9/2 for a home win put Bilic’s side very much in the underdog category.
