With reports that Crystal Palace could be set to sell Christian Benteke, the latest twist has West Brom’s Saido Berahino going in the other direction as part of an exchange deal.
It’s been claimed among numerous sections of the press that new Eagles boss Sam Allardyce is looking to cash in on Benteke, who could yield as much as £30m for the south London club.
And the big Belgian has been priced up at just 6/4 to leave Selhurst Park this month.
While Allardyce wants to reinvest that windfall in other areas of the team, Palace may also consider a deal with the Baggies.
Berahino’s exile under Pulis shows no sign of letting up anytime soon, and the Black Country outfit would surely welcome a player of Benteke’s calibre.
Berahino has made just four Premier League appearances this season, and hasn’t featured at all since September.
Benteke meanwhile has grabbed eight goals this term.
And given transfermarkt.co.uk’s respective values of the two players – Berahino at £12m and Benteke at £22m – Palace could still make a good £10m+ and find themselves with a talented striker.
That would still allow Allardyce to invest elsewhere, with Arsenal duo Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson, plus Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt tipped with a move to Croydon.
While Big Sam continues to search for his ideal signings, he remains without a win as Palace boss from four games.
The former Bolton gaffer will be hoping to get the monkey off his back this weekend when he takes his side to West Ham.
