‘Arsenal sign Beckham’ is a headline you thought you’d never hear but it certainly is the case if reports in the Daily Star are to be believed.
The Gunners have stolen a march on rivals Chelsea and Manchester United by snapping up David Beckham’s eldest son Brooklyn on a short-term contract but plans are already afoot to give the son of Goldenballs a longer-term deal next summer.
An Arsenal source told the Daily Star: “Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played.
“He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club.
“Arsenal realise he can be a huge talent. They have seen that potential and protected their asset,” the source added.
“Next summer we may see him sign a big-money deal and with Arsenal.”
Ladbrokes have reacted with a number of Beckham Specials and have priced Brooklyn at 10/1 to play for Arsenal in the Premier League, while the 15-year-old is priced at 20/1 to score in England’s top flight.
The youngster, who has trialled at PSG and Chelsea in the past, is 50/1 to follow in his father’s legendary footsteps and pull on the Three Lions jersey and win a full international cap for England.
Brooklyn joins brothers Romeo and Cruz, who have also impressed with their skills, at the Arsenal academy with the pair featuring for the under-13 and under-10 sides of the north London club.
Meanwhile, it is 500/1 that all three of the Beckham boys make the grade with the Gunners and play for the first-team in the Premier League.
With genes from footballing royalty it would take a brave soul to back against Beckham senior watching his boys trot out at the Emirates but he may have to persuade Romeo – and Victoria – to give up his lush modelling contract first!
