Arsenal could be set to make some impressive January signings, as reports link the Gunners with a move for former Real Madrid star Jese.
The bookies make it 5/1 that Arsene Wenger signs the 23-year-old winger next month.
Jese only joined the French giants last summer, but has failed to impress new boss Unai Emery, starting just once this season.
The Spanish U21 international has been reduced to a handful of cameo roles, highlighted none more so than his four Champions League appearances totalling a mere 17 minutes of football.
It’s lead to numerous reports that the winger could move on after just six month in the French capital.
At Arsenal, Theo Walcott may be enjoying the best season of his career, but the jury is still out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi, and many in the red half of north London would feel signing Jese would be a welcome improvement.
And if Wenger can land the star who bagged five goals and seven assists in La Liga last season, then Arsenal would certainly feel like they’ve made the right decision.
PSG splashed out £20m last summer, but given how quickly player and club have fallen out, the French champions may be quite keen to simply recoup what they paid if they sell next month.
That would go down well in the Arsenal boardroom, with today’s market suggesting that £20m for a player of Jese’s quality is good value indeed.
But with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho tormenting defences on Merseyside, a move to Arsenal makes the most sense for Jese.
The Gunners are not in action now until 2017, when they host Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace on New Years’ Day.
The Eagles may have picked up a point in their first game under their new gaffer, but the bookies make Wenger’s charges 1/3 favourites to open the New Year victoriously.
