If someone found a way of cloning Cristiano Ronaldo, they’d become very rich very quickly. But, while scientific advancement means the Portuguese scoring sensation remains the only one of his kind, teams will have to settle for finding cheap imitations of the Real Madrid forward.

Except Arsenal, that is, who seem to have spotted a teenager among Benfica’s ranks who dares to live up to the former Manchester United man’s stature and has a hefty price tag to go along with it.

17-year-old Goncalo Guedes has, unsurprisingly, a few suitors for his signature, with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and even Los Blancos all keen to take a gamble on the Benavente native to see if he can emulate his compatriot’s jaw-dropping career.

Should Arsenal, or indeed any other of the continent’s super powers, land Guedes, however, they’ll have to pay a whopping £40m to secure his services, as he’s in the process of signing a lucrative new contract at the Estádio da Luz.

Such a fee, for a player yet to make his first-team debut for the Eagles, indicates the shrewdness of the Portuguese club, who expect Guedes to attract bids in the future and aren’t willing to let him go for a pittance.

Although Wenger isn’t normally thought of as an impulse buyer, it is his renowned caution that saw him miss out on the original Cristiano Ronaldo when the winger was with Sporting Lisbon.

Having, splashed the cash on the likes of Mesut Ozil in the past, the Frenchman isn’t likely to want to miss out on the second coming.

For now, though, the Gunners must do without Ronaldo or his reincarnation, and are 1/1 to beat Swansea when they travel to Wales on Sunday afternoon.
