It looks like being another quiet transfer deadline day for Arsenal – but this summer could herald the start of another battle with Barcelona.
According to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are confident of bagging Gunners striker Robin van Persie this in this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutch star – who has already hit 25 goals for the Gunners this term – is out of contract in June 2013 and Van Persie has so far refused to discuss an extension to his current deal.
That has allegedly caught the attention of Barcelona and Mundo Deportivo believes the player is seriously considering following Cesc Fabregas to the Catalan club.
It would undoubtedly be a tempting move for the striker whose next contract would be amongst his last – he turns 29 in the summer and this would surely be his last chance to get a move to the likes of Barcelona.
Van Persie leaving would be a huge blow to the Gunners and they will fight tooth and nail to keep him.
The Gunners’ debts are rapidly being paid off though and – if Wenger buys well in the summer – then there is every chance Van Persie will stay.
A trophy wouldn’t hurt Arsenal’s chances of keeping him either and Arsene Wenger’s men are currently 5/1 to win the FA Cup.
