Peru v Paraguay betting tips

The Copa America quarter-finals get under way late on Friday night with this intriguing clash between Peru and Paraguay in Goiania.

Peru finished second behind Group B winners Brazil having beaten Colombia and Venezuela but they start the game as 2/1 underdogs.

Neither team has won Copa America since the 1970s but let’s examine the Copa America odds and markets in our Peru v Paraguay betting tips.

Match Odds

Paraguay also won two of their four matches, including an impressive 2-0 victory against Chile, but they finished third in Group A having lost narrowly to Argentina and Uruguay.

La Albirojja are 13/8 favourites to reach the semi-finals as both nations did six years ago when Peru beat Paraguay 2-0 in the third-placed play-off.

Miguel Almiron Paraguay

The teams shared an exciting 2-2 draw in a World Cup qualifier in October and that was exactly the same scoreline in Peru’s group matches against Ecuador and Venezuela here in Brazil.

The teams to be level after 90 minutes can be backed at 19/10 and goals at both ends is 17/5 but a 2-2 draw is 16/1. Both teams to score is available at 5/4.

However, Peru have won six of the last seven encounters with Paraguay since 2014, three of which they won by a 1-0 scoreline and that outcome is available at 11/2 and a win to nil is 16/5.

Talking Tactics

Peru head coach Ricardo Gareca has consistently deployed a 4-2-3-1 during Copa America in which Gianluca Lapadula leads the line and dangerman Andre Carrillo plays wide right.

Paraguay counterpart Eduardo Berizzo went with the same formation in the 1-0 defeat by Argentina, with Miguel Almiron playing on the left behind lone striker Gabriel Avalos, but the Newcastle man played up front in a 4-4-2 during the win against Chile.

Goalscorer Odds

Paraguay’s Carlos Gonzalez and Peru’s Lapadula are the 11/2 joint favourites to get the ball rolling and 13/5 to score at any time in the Peru v Paraguay betting tips.

However, Carrillo has netted twice at the tournament and he bagged a double against Paraguay in that World Cup qualifying draw.

The 30-year-old winger is available at 8/1 to break the deadlock as he did against Venezuela or 7/2 as an anytime scorer while Almiron is the same price in both markets for Paraguay.

Almiron scored from the penalty spot in the win against Chile, his third goal for his country in 35 appearances.
