Nottingham Forest look set to complete a Deadline Day double, with the club closing in on former player Luke Chambers from Ipswich, plus Chesterfield’s highly-rated winger Gboly Ariyibi.

The Reds, still led by interim manager Gary Brazil, have been heavily linked with Chambers over the past couple of days.

The defender knows the City Ground well, having played for Forest between 2007 and 2012, making over 200 appearances.

But Chambers is out of contract at Ipswich this summer, leaving Mick McCarthy with little option but to sell today to pick up any transfer fee.

The Ipswich skipper has played over 40 times in each of the last three seasons at Portman Road, but Forest are hoping his familiarity with the area could tempt him back.

Forest are also interested in Chesterfield’s Gboly Ariyibi.

The winger has shone for the Spireites this season, but like Chambers, is out of contract this summer.

Ariyibi has been with the the League One outfit since 2014, but it seems unlikely they will keep hold of the American, with the side currently in the relegation zone.

Two-time European Cup champions Forest could use a boost, amid continued troubles with owner Fawar Al-Hasawi. A proposed buyout from an American consortium dragged on for months, and left the club with a transfer embargo.

Though the embargo has since been lifted, Forest have been without a permanent manager since Philippe Montanier was sacked a fortnight ago.

And the club have seen a number of potential coaches reject approaches to become the eighth coach under Al-Hasawi’s reign.

Sitting just five points above the relegation zone, Forest could desperately use a win, and will hope to claim one tonight when Rotherham visit.

We make the hosts 3/4 favourites for a much-needed three points.
