Manchester City v Chelsea Betting Tips: Citizens aim to wrap up title
The Champions League final dress rehearsal takes place on Saturday when Manchester City can also secure a third Premier League title in four years by defeating Chelsea.
City are 19/20 to beat the Blues as they did at Stamford Bridge at the turn of the year but the west Londoners avenged that defeat in the FA Cup semi-final three weeks ago and are available at 13/4 to win again, with the draw priced at 23/10.
Both teams are on cloud nine after booking their tickets to the Istanbul final on May 29, so let’s look at some of the markets in our Manchester City v Chelsea betting tips.
City were resolute in defence and threatening in attack during Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over French champions PSG which fired them into the final by a 4-1 aggregate.
The Blues were equally brilliant against 13-time European champions Real Madrid and should have won more handsomely than the 2-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge where Kai Havertz could have had a hat-trick.
Thomas Tuchel admitted after the game the FA Cup success against City had boosted their confidence and for those who may wish to hedge their bets, they can be backed at 17/20 to win or draw in the double chance market or win/draw no bet is 7/4.
Although both teams have a wealth of talent in attack, they are formidable at the back and top the clean sheets table with 18, four more than the next best team Aston Villa, so punters may want to consider both teams to score: no at 3/4.
However, both teams have scored in the last three Premier League meetings between the teams and that option is just short of evens while over 2.5 goals is 6/5 which has been the case in the previous four games.
Chelsea, who are three points clear of fifth-placed West Ham, have also broken the deadlock in three of the last four games against City in all competitions and we go 17/10 on the Blues to extend that run.
Both teams have been playing with false nines recently and Chelsea in particular have struggled in front of goal, especially Timo Werner, but Havertz is emerging as a potent threat.
The German twice hit the crossbar on Wednesday – one of which resulted in Werner’s opener – and he was also denied by Thibaut Courtois in a one-on-one situation.
Tuchel deployed a 3-1-4-2 against the Spanish giants but went 3-4-2-1 in last month’s FA Cup so may stick with a winning formula.
Counterpart Pep Guardiola played a traditional 4-4-2 against PSG but their fluidity means it’s hard to nail down their formation!
Guardiola regularly makes sweeping changes to his starting line-up so it’s a tough task predicting who will be in the XI.
Riyad Mahrez bagged a brace on Tuesday and is 11/2 to break the deadlock or 23/10 to find the net while Sergio Aguero is 4/1 to score first and 9/5 in the anytime market having come on for the last five minutes at the Etihad.
Havertz looks an interesting option at 7/2 to score and the Blues forward is 9/1 to draw first blood while compatriot Werner is 3/1 to breach City’s defence and 15/2 to get the ball rolling with the opener.
