Rangers v Malmo betting tips and odds

Rangers host Malmo on Tuesday needing a win by two goals to guarantee a place in the Champions League play-off round.

The Light Blues went through the whole of last season without losing a game en route to their first Scottish title in 10 years, but were beaten 1-0 by Dundee United at the weekend, their first Premiership defeat in 17 months.

Steven Gerrard’s side are 4/7 to beat the Swedes on Tuesday night so let’s look at some of the other markets and odds in our Rangers v Malmo betting tips.

Match Odds

Rangers went down 2-1 in the opening leg although it could have been a lot worse had veteran midfielder Steven Davis not scored with the final kick of the game in stoppage time.

Rangers boss Gerrard said: “It’s not the position we wanted to be in but it’s obviously a lot better than going in at 2-0 and we were also on the verge of maybe going in even worse as well.

“The injury time has been very big for us but our performance over 90 minutes hasn’t been enough. So we are going to have to go up levels individually and collectively.”

The Liverpool legend was unhappy with the players’ performances at Tannadice too, so we go 3/1 on a draw, 24/5 on an away win or 11/8 in the double chance market, while Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Malmo are evens to qualify.

Bearing in mind Malmo struck twice at the start of the second half, both teams to score is available at 4/5 and the hosts to win and goals at both ends is priced at 9/4.

The game in Sweden was goalless at the break which is 9/5 for a repeat at Ibrox and a draw after 45 minutes can be backed at 6/5, while a home win and under 3.5 goals is 13/10.

Talking Tactics

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos returned to the starting line-up at the weekend after a spell in quarantine and the Colombian is likely to lead the line again in a 4-3-3 formation.

The Colombian was flanked by Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent in attack, with Davis in central midfield and John Lundstram and Glen Kamara either side.

Tomasson went with a 5-3-2 last week but made wholesale changes for the goalless draw with Halmstad at the weekend so his side should be fresh.

Goalscorer Odds

Morelos fired blanks on Saturday but is 7/2 co-favourite with Fashion Sakala to break the deadlock and both men can be backed at 7/5 to score any time in Rangers v Malmo betting tips.

Cedric Itten was the main striker in Sweden but came off the bench for the last 10 minutes at Tannadice, so he is 4/1 and 6/4 in both markets, while Davis is 6/1 to get on the scoresheet again.

Penalty-taker James Tavernier is 11/2 to draw first blood or 2/1 to find the net, while main striker Antonio Colak is 11/4 to score any time for the Swedes.

Soren Rieks and Veljko Birmancevic, goalscorers in the first leg, are 12/1 to get the game’s first goal or 9/2 and 4/1 respectively to breach Gers’ defence.
