Liverpool v Atletico Betting Tips: Another famous CL night at Anfield?

Published:
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool

Liverpool will need to produceanother famous Champions League night at Anfield if they’re to overturn a 1-0deficit against Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.

Saul Niguezscored the only goal a fortnight ago as Diego Simeone’s men delivered the Redsa first defeat since December to reducetheir own CL odds to 20/1.

JurgenKlopp’s side are no strangers to a big second-leg on Merseyside, though. Andthey’ll be looking to summon the spirit of Barcelona ’19 and Dortmund ’16 asthey bid to progress.

Can they do it and justify the 10/11 about them to qualify? We’ve previewed the match below.

Match Odds

Liverpool may be unbeaten in 17 at home in the Champions League but they have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions. Nevertheless, we have them at 8/15 to win inside 90 minutes.

Atletico haveonly won twice on 13 trips to English sides in Europe. We have them at 11/2 to improve that record tonight, with 29/10 about a Draw which wouldalso send them through.

The theme of this tie, though, seems to be tight defences. And with the La Liga side having failed to score in seven of their last ten CL away matches, Liverpool to Win to Nil is priced at 27/20.

Talking Tactics

The Redscould welcome back Andy Robertson and Jordan Henderson after the pair returnedto training in the build-up to the match.

Adrian willkeep his place in goal with Alisson expected to miss both tonight’s match andnext week’s Merseyside derby. The fab three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino andMo Salah will continue up-front.

For thevisitors, Simeone could rotate with Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata and Diego Costaall back available. The former and the latter could get the nod with first-leghero Niguez tasked with supplying them.

However, this game could be won and lost with Atletico’s defence. Liverpool like to blitz the opposition at Anfield, but up against a drilled back-four, which may include Kieran Trippier, it should be an intriguing battle.

Goalscorer Odds

Salah isLiverpool’s top scorer in the Champions League this season. He’s 23/20 to net anytime, with fellowforwards Mane and Firmino priced at 3/2and 23/10.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi have both developed a taste for scoring in Europe’s elite club competition. We have the former at 4/1 anytime, with the latter 11/2 to score last.

ForAtletico, Morata is rated their besthope at 13/5, with Costa at 4/1 andFelix back at 11/2. Niguez is a 17/2 chance to repeat hisfirst-leg heroics and pop up with a goal anytime.
