Milan Mandaric has vowed to bring the glory days back to Sheffield Wednesday and this could mean that they represent good value at 8/1 to win League One this season.
The Owls are currently one of the form teams in England after winning their last six games in all competitions, which includes three straight victories in the league.
This form has lifted them into fourth in the standings and they are now within six points of present table toppers Brighton.
The fact that Mandaric’s takeover of the club has been confirmed will only increase optimism that bright times are ahead, particularly if he makes funds available for the January transfer window to boost the squad.
Mandaric will take over chairman duties at Sheffield Wednesday and will play a fundamental role as part of a three-man board with Howard Wilkinson and Nick Parker.
He said: “I will do everything in my power, working with Howard, Nick and Alan Irvine to again make Sheffield Wednesday a real force in English football.”
One of the big areas that Sheffield Wednesday have starred so far this season is in defence as they have conceded just 12 goals in their 18 League One games, which is unsurprisingly the best in the division.
However, they have not been as impressive at the other end of the pitch, as despite having a number of useful attacking threats they have managed only 26 goals, including averaging a goal a game in their ten fixtures at Hillsbrough.
Neil Mellor is their top scorer with six league goals and he is now 25/1 to finish the season as the top scorer in League One.
There is likely to be goals in the club’s next game away at Swindon, as the last two league meetings between the two at Swindon have both finished 3-2, with each team claiming one victory each.
