Doncaster v Swindon: A score draw to await promotion chasers?

Published:

The race for promotion in League One is an incredibly tight one this season, with just ten points separating the top nine teams with just a handful of games remaining.

It’s been a mightily competitive league all year long, and this game between Doncaster and Swindon could have big implications on who plays Championship football and who isn’t when August comes around.

Neither side has been able to sustain a winning run of late, such is the competitiveness of the opposition in the division.

The sides have met just seven times in the past 26 years, but three of those games have  ended in a 1-1 draw, and the hosts have drawn two of their last three games at the Keepmoat by that scoreline.

With Swindon finding the back of the net in each of their last six on the road in League One, a 1-1 draw at 5/1 is well worth looking at.

Billy Paynter may be Doncaster’s top marksman with 11 goals this season, but Chris Brown is the Dons in-form striker, and with two in his last three appearances, is a handy 9/4 to score anytime against the Robins.

James Collins is leading Swindon’s goal charts with 12 in League One, and the ex-Shrewsbury man is particularly lethal away from the County Ground, with three goals in his last five away games.

Collins is 2/1 to score anytime, but look closer and the real value could be had in the Last Goalscorer Market.

The 22-year-old has come on as a substitute in his last four games, and is 6/1 to make an impact and score the last goal of the match, as he did at Yeovil in Swindon’s last away game.
