Football may be thin on the ground, but it’s game on in Australia and Belarus.
Our football traders have taken a lookahead at Saturday’s three matches…
Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney (A-League, 08:30)
Sydney FC are the clear best team in the Australian A-League. Not only do they lead the table by seven points, they also have the best away record with seven wins from nine and a +14 goal difference.
Western Sydney Wanderers lie in 8th place, two points off a Final Series Play-off place. Interestingly though, Sydney FC have lost only two games all season, both against Western Sydney Wanderers.
Both sides will be looking for their ex-Championship goal machine to lead the line. Adam Le Fondre (Sydney FC) is 13/5 to score the first goal, while Simon Cox (Western Sydney Wanderers) is priced at 7/1.
Vitebsk v Gorodeya (Vysshaya League, 11:00)
This is the first game of the new season. Vitebsk finished last season in freefall losing their final four games and only scoring one goal.
This form has continued into pre-season with only two wins from eleven warm up matches. No Vitebsk player scored more than four goals last season, which explains why they were the league’s second lowest scorers with only twenty four goals in thirty games.
Gorodeya who have looked much better in pre-season having won four of
their final five warm up matches, will be relying on last season’s top scorer Arkhipov Artyom to lead their attack.
Isloch v Neman Grodno (Vysshaya League, 13:00)
Another opening weekend game in Belarus. Isloch had the league’s best defence at home last season with only nine goals conceded in fifteen games.
With this defence and last season’s top scorer Momo Yansane, Isloch will be looking for a repeat of their fantastic fifth place finish. Neman Grodno have had a decent pre-season with five wins and only two losses from thirteen matches.
