Football on Friday: Our trader looks over Belarus and the A-League

Footballfans better get their passport ready with action from the Australian A-Leagueand the Belarusian Premier League on the agenda this Friday.

We’ve enlisted the help of one of our top traders to guide us though four key fixtures.

Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne City (A-League, 6:30)

Central Coast Mariners are seven points adrift of 10th place at the bottom of league and have lost their last nine league games by a combined score of 26 goals to seven.

MelbourneCity are 2nd but 10 points behind leaders Sydney FC. Melbourne City arepart of the ‘City Football Group’ who also own Manchester City. 

NotableMelbourne City players:

JamieMaclaren – CurrentMelbourne top scorer and ex-Hibernian player.

CraigNoone – Ex-Bolton,Plymouth, Cardiff and Brighton player.

Markel Susaeta – Ex-Athletic Bilbao player.

Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets (A-League, 8:30) 

BrisbaneRoar are 4th in the league and fighting for a final series play-off spot.

NewcastleJets are in 9th with nothing really to play for. Newcastle are in their bestform of the season having not been beaten in six games (three wins and threedraws).

NotableBrisbane Roar players:

Scott McDonald – Ex-Celtic, Middlesbrough, Motherwell, Millwall and Dundee. Scored plenty of goals in Scotland and England.

TomAldred – Captain whohas played for his fair share of team in England.

BradInman – Ex-Newcastle,Crewe, Peterborough and Rochdale player.

Belarusian Premier League

Dinamo Brest v Smolevichy-STI (15:00)

It’s the first game of the new season and Brest are 1/7 to take all three points. They won last season’s title by five points from BATE Borisov.

Brest’s twotop scorers last season were Dzyanis Laptsew and Pavel Nyakhaychykwho got 12 goals each. Laptsew remains at Dinamo Brest but Nyakhaychyk hassigned for BATE Borisov on a free transfer.

Smolevichyhave just been promoted from the second division after finishing second.Smolevichy’s top scorer was Evgeni Barsukov with 15 goals.

Dinamo Minsk v Ruh Brest (17:00) 

Dinamo Minskfinished last season in 4th, just outside the European places, and are 2/5for all three points.

Ruh Brestwere promoted after finishing 3rd and winning a two-legged play-off gameagainst Dnyapro from the top division. 

Minsk have just been knocked out of the Belarusian Cup after losing 5-3 on aggregate to BATE Borisov.
