Five sporting events to watch this week

It’s the start of a new week which means it’s time to look forward to the sporting schedule. We’ve picked out five events to put in your diary over the next seven days.

Whether you’ve got your eye on the big Football matches around Europe or looking to buckle up to the Horse Racing at Newbury, you can find it all here…

Champions League

It’s matchday four of the Champions League group stages with Rennes v Chelsea and Manchester United v Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday. They’re joined by PSG v RB Leipzig, Lazio v Zenit and Dynamo Kyiv v Barcelona.

On Wednesday both Liverpool and Manchester City are in action looking to made it four wins in a row. Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Greece to take on Olympiakos in the earlier kick-off. Six-time champions Liverpool host Atalanta at Anfield as 4/6 favourites.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan welcome Real Madrid to the San Siro in Group B and RB Salzburg travel to Munich to reigning champions Bayern.

Snooker UK Championship

The 44th staging of the UK Championship gets underway later on today until Sunday 6th December at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

Seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan bids for an eighth victory in one of snooker’s biggest tournaments. He meets seasoned Irish amateur Leo Fernandez in his first-round match on Wednesday.

World number one Judd Trump starts as 3/1 favourite to lift a second UK title. He’ll get his tournament underway against Paul Davison on Thursday.

Defending three-times champion Ding will face Jamie Curtis-Barrett in his tournament opener and is an 18/1 outsider to retain his crown.

Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals

On Friday, the Ladbrokes Players Championship begins at the Ricoh Arena as 64 players battle it out for the title over the weekend.

Reigning champion Michael van Gerwen and 2019 finalist Gerwyn Price are both 4/1 favourites to win the tournament.

Peter Wright (11/2), Michael Smith (12/1) and Dimitri Van den Bergh (16/1) are some of the other contenders for the trophy.

Ladbrokes Winter Carnival

There are seven races at Newbury on Saturday for the Ladbrokes Winter Carnival – Trophy Day.

The biggest race of the day is the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase (15:00). Last year’s runner-up The Conditional will be hoping to go one better ahead of the likes of Copperhead, Two for Gold and Vinndication in what looks like being a strong field.

Premier League

When the weekend rolls round, there is another bumper schedule of Premier League action, kicking off with Crystal Palace v Newcastle on Friday night.

On Saturday, Liverpool travel to Brighton at lunchtime with Manchester City versus Burnley and Everton v Leeds too.

On Sunday, there’s three games, the pick of those is a London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge with top teams hoping to continue their impressive league form.

Elsewhere, Southampton host Manchester United and Arsenal take on Wolves at the Emirates Stadium.
