Scunthorpe United boss Ian Baraclough insists the pressure is off as his side as they look to cause a major upset against Everton in the FA Cup third round.
The Iron have experience in big FA Cup ties, having played Manchester City in the fourth round last season. They lost that game 4-2 and an Everton win by the same score this term can be backed at a massive 40/1.
However, with Everton finding goals hard to come by this season, it promises to be a tight affair – and Baraclough is convinced his side can take advantage.
He said: “There is no pressure. We’ve ran one or two sides close in the cup in recent years and we know that if we perform to the standard we know we can then we’re capable of an upset.
“Hopefully we will catch Everton on an off day. They’ve got to come here, and the pitch won’t be in as good a state as Goodison Park.
“They won’t be used to a stadium this small and you could get one or two bits of complacency creeping in on their part which enable us to get a result.”
However, a win looks to be a bit beyond The Iron who are nestled snugly in the Championship relegation zone – largely thanks to their abysmal home record.
They haven’t won in their last ten home games and have lost their previous six on the bounce. Backing Everton – fresh off the back of a brilliant 2-1 win against Spurs – to come out on top at a rather generous 8/13 looks to be well worth a bet.
