The Electrical Services Stadium doesn’t sound like the sort of setting you would usually associate with a fairy tale, but then FA Cup fairy tales are a very different kettle of fish.

Take this Wednesday’s replay between 2008 FA Cup winners Portsmouth and Aldershot – a couple of years ago this fixtures would have been a meeting between one silverware-winning Premier League outfit and a struggling League Two side.

Aldershot may have tumbled back down to the Conference a couple of seasons ago but it’s Pompey who have endured the bigger slide, finally stabilising in League Two last term.

Back as favourites at 13/10 to win, despite only just salvaging a draw against the Shots at Fratton Park, it’s the hosts who look the better prospects for the win 21/10, with the draw offered at 23/10 with Ladbrokes.

And ahead of this televised FA Cup encounter, we’ve got three great bets to get you in the mood for some midweek FA Cup fun and maybe help you score a fairytale win with the bookmaker.

Aldershot to keep a clean sheet @ 5/2

The first game between these two ended 2-2 but we are predicting a much more sombre affair in Aldershot, particularly given Portsmouth’s abysmal record for finding the net away from Fratton Park this season.

Pompey have failed to score in seven of their last nine games away from their south coast home and could struggle against a Shots defence brimming with confidence following back-to-back clean sheets in the Conference.

Dan Holman to score anytime @ 13/5

Several of the Aldershot team are handsomely priced to score at any time against Portsmouth, despite the non-league side coming close to winning at Fratton Park and of the names on offer we fancy Dan Holman to get among the goals here.

The 24-year-old was on target last time out for the Hampshire oufit in the Conference and has scored in his last two outings at the Electrical Services Stadium and after a lively display against Portsmouth in a few weeks back, could go one better here.

Aldershot to win 1-0 or 2-0 @ 17/4

With Portsmouth boasting a terrible record of scoring away from home, the temptation to back a correct score bet is obvious but we think it could be wise to back both a 1-0 or 2-0 win for Aldershot here given their recent history.

Six of Aldershot’s last seven wins in all competitions have come by a scoreline of either 1-0 or 2-0, so logic would dictate that the same result could and should play out here.
