The Emirates FA Cup First Round certainly didn’t disappoint, delivering some sensational match-ups.
Sutton United won a nine-goal thriller at Dartford, National League Macclesfield secured a famous win at Walsall and Boreham Wood played out a cracker against Notts County.
But there are scores still to settle before the Second Round, with a flurry of replays in the coming days. Here are three ties which promise to intrigue and entertain…
Non-Leaguers looking to repeat Third Round feat
Eastleigh were one of the big success stories in last season’s Emirates FA Cup, with the Spitfires reaching the Third Round, where they came within four minutes of beating Bolton Wanderers, having knocked Crewe Alexandra out earlier in the competition.
The Non-Leaguers are hoping lightning will strike twice against a Swindon Town side who have been knocked out at this stage in each of the previous four seasons. Would you really bet against another Eastleigh win, with the Hampshire outfit 10/3 for victory.
Lancashire rivals battle for dominance
Fleetwood Town and Southport meet for the first time since the two fought for promotion to the Football League back in 2012, and the Sandgrounders will be keen for revenge at Highbury Stadium.
While the first Emirates FA Cup match between the pair earlier this month ended 0-0, the 6-0 hammering Fleetwood doled out back in 2012 will mean the visitors have even more motivation to cause an upset.
For their part, the hosts boast real quality in the likes of David Ball and Eggert Jonsson. Now these two have had 90 minutes to get accustomed to one another, expect a cracker of a replay.
Notts County v Boreham Wood
These two played out a thrilling 2-2 draw, with the Ladbrokes News team in the bumper crowd at Meadow Park first time around. But will it be the past masters or the up-and-coming underdogs who prevail on Tuesday night?
County were one of the first clubs to ever lift this trophy in 1884, and will be confident of reviving their proud cup history after a difficult few years in this competition – with the likes of Adam Campbell and ex-Manchester United ace Alan Smith in attack.
The Wood have already broken new ground by reaching the First Round, and prolific hitman Morgan Ferrier may well give the Magpies problems once again at Meadow Lane.
