Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarkable start to the season continued last night as he fired four goals in Real Madrid’s 5-1 win over Elche.
It was the Portuguese star’s second hat-trick in four days after scoring three in Los Blancos’ 8-2 victory over Deportivo La Coruna and in the latest of our Breaking Bets series, Ladbrokes have priced up Ronaldo to score a hat-trick of hat-tricks.
The former Manchester United man is 12/1 with the bookmaker to score his third treble in as many matches when Carlo Ancelotti’s side travel to El Madrigal.
And Villarreal know all about being on the end of a hatful of Ronaldo goals after the 29-year-old scored the fifth of his 25 Real Madrid hat-tricks when the two sides clashed at the Bernabeu back in 2011.
The forward is also closing in on a number of records and few would back against him chasing down Alfredo Di Stefano’s 28 Real Madrid hat-tricks.
The former Sporting Lisbon star, who has 21 league trebles to his name, is also closing in on Di Stefano and legendary Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra’s 22 La Liga hat-tricks (Lionel Messi currently has 19).
In the goal stakes Ronaldo is fast approaching Raul’s 71 Champions League goals for the Spanish club.
The Portugal international has currently fired 68 goal in Europe’s premier cup competition and barring injury he is sure to overtake the former Spanish international’s record this season.
Raul is also the man Ronaldo is chasing in Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer having hit 323 goals for the capital club between 1994 and 2010.
Los Merengues’ number seven is currently fourth on that list with 260 and is also behind club legends Di Stefano (308) and Santillana (290).
Rumours have been circulating in recent weeks about a possible exit from Real for Ronaldo with Manchester United once again touted as a possible destination.
But with so many records on the horizon it is likely we’ll see Ronaldo strutting his stuff in the white of Real for a little while longer just yet.
As long as the goals keep flowing, the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping it’s not too much longer and what better way to go even closer to breaking all these records than with a third successive hat-trick against Villarreal on Saturday.
