Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao to climb up La Liga table

Published:

The bottom two in La Liga have looked hopeless so far this season, with Real Zaragoza and Deportivo without a win between them in a combined 17 games, so the team directly above them, Almeria, will be eager to prove they don’t deserve to keep such company this evening.

They face a tough trip to Atletico Madrid in the first game of Sky Sports 1’s double header and it’s a brave man who looks beyond the hosts at 8/15 to take the three points.

Atletico are seventh despite a tough start that has seen them face four of the sides above them in the table, and they’ve been victorious in all four of the fixtures they’ve played against those below.

Almeria have been better on their travels than at home, though their away points haul is boosted by the fact they’ve visited awful Deportivo, however the strugglers have failed to fin the net in their other three on the road. Atletico are 6/5 to keep a clean sheet.

The latter match pairs two top-half teams that will have an opportunity to leapfrog the capital club should they slip up – Athletic Bilbao and Getafe.

Like Atletico, the Basque side’s results hint at an efficiency and ability to get the job done when they’re expected to – four losses from ties against the top eight, compared to three wins and a draw from their other encounters.

Getafe are above them but their away clashes with top-half opposition have ended in two-goal defeats to Espanyol and Atletico Madrid. The hosts are a tempting proposition at evens to triumph, while odds of 5/1 are offered on them doing so by a two-goal margin.

The Atletico/Athletic double can be backed at a price of around 41/20. See the full Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe match betting odds market.
