Roma v Manchester United Betting Tips: Red Devils can capitalise on hosts’ injury woes

Manchester United can afford to take it easy having overturned a 2-1 half-time deficit to beat Roma 6-2 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.

United’s players will be rested after Sunday’s clash with arch rivals Liverpool was postponed because of protesting fans breaking into Old Trafford, so they can go for the jugular in Rome.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 5/6 to repeat that victory and 2/1 to win and concede as they did last week but let’s take a closer look at the odds for our Roma v Manchester United Betting Tips.

Match Odds

Roma are out of contention for Europe next season for two reasons – poor away form and disappointing results against the teams above them in the Serie A table.

Paulo Fonseca’s men have won just five games on the road in the top flight and have failed to win any of their matches against sides in the top six.

But they have the third-best home record in Italy this season (W11 D4 L2) and with United holding a four-goal lead, it’s possible Thursday’s game could be drawn at 13/5.

Roma shared the spoils with Inter, Juventus and Atalanta in the Eternal City, two of which ended 2-2, so a draw and both teams to score is an interesting option which can be backed at 18/5.

United may want to take their frustration out on Roma after Sunday’s postponement so if they decide to go for it they are available at 19/10 to score three goals or more, something only Spezia have achieved at the Stadio Olimpico either in the Europa League or Serie A this season.

However, over 2.5 goals overall, which has occurred in 15 of Roma’s 24 home games in all competitions, is available at 23/20.

Talking Tactics

Roma’s injury crisis deepened at Old Trafford where defender Leonardo Spinazzola, midfielder Jordan Veretout and goalkeeper Pau Lopez all had to be substituted in the first half.

All three players were missing for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Sampdoria which reports promoted Roma’s board to reveal two days later that Fonseca would leave his role at the end of the season when he will be replaced by ex-Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

United are in good health and are almost at full-strength for Thursday’s game as they look to reach the Europa League for the second time in five years.

Goalscorer odds

Edinson Cavani was excellent at Old Trafford where he scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season.

The Uruguayan is available at 4/1 to break the deadlock, the same price as the other two-goal hero Bruno Fernandes, and 5/4 to find the net at any time.

Mason Greenwood may get a starting role with the tie almost in the bag and he is 17/10 to find the net, just as he did with the sixth goal last week.
