There were 108 goals at the last European Championship but which team will fire blanks at the tournament?

Hungary have the toughest group of all with 2018 World Cup winners France, defending European champions Portugal and Germany awaiting them in the group stage, and they are 9/2 in the Euro 2020 lowest scoring team odds.

Let’s take a look at some of the contenders to fail in front of goal at the delayed tournament.

Hungary

Hungary were comfortably the lowest scorers during the qualifying phase with just eight goals from as many games which saw them finish fourth in a five-team group.

Their cause hasn’t been helped by landing in the ‘Group of Death’ at the finals and they were beaten 1-0 and 3-0 by Portugal in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Their final warm-up game was a goalless draw with Republic of Ireland, but they drew 3-3 with Poland in a recent World Cup qualifier which brought back memories of the same scoreline against Portugal during Euro 2016.

North Macedonia

North Macedonia scored just 12 goals from their 10 group games which included 1-0 and 2-0 defeats by Euro 2020 qualifiers Poland.

They did manage to score in both defeats by Austria, the team they face on Sunday in their opening group game and of course they shocked the world with a 2-1 away win against Germany in a recent World Cup qualifier.

They wrapped up their preparations with a 4-0 win against Kazakhstan and lost 3-2 to Romania in a World Cup qualifier, but are 5/1 in the Euro 2020 lowest scoring team odds.

Finland

Finland made it to their first major tournament by finishing runners-up to Italy but they scored just 16 times and have injury concerns over star striker Teemu Pukki.

Pukki missed Norwich’s final game of the season with ankle ligament damage although he came on for the last half an hour of Finland’s worrying 1-0 defeat by Estonia in their last warm-up game.

They also lost 2-0 to Sweden six days earlier and are 7/1 to be the lowest scoring team at the European Championship ahead of their group games against Denmark, Russia and Belgium.

Scotland

The Scots are competing in their first major tournament in 23 years and scored 16 goals in qualifying, but only once in their two play-off matches against Israel and Serbia.

Steve Clarke’s side are not blessed with attacking talent, but they scored twice in a 2-2 draw against a strong Dutch side in last week’s friendly despite being without several first-team players.

They scored three goals in two Nations League meetings with Czech Republic towards the end of 2020, though, and they are 9/1 to be the tournament’s lowest scoring team.

Slovakia

Slovakia are also 9/1 having scored 13 times in eight qualifying games although they found the net just once in normal time against Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland in the play-offs.

The Slovaks drew 0-0 with Cyprus in a World Cup qualifier before concluding their preparations with the same scoreline against Austria, and will find it hard to break down Spain, Sweden and Poland.
