Sturridge and Rashford both odds-on to make Roy’s squad

Daniel Sturridge and Marcus Rashford are both set to be on the plane to France this summer, with the bookies making the strikers odds-on to be in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad.

Despite recent injury concerns, Liverpool’s Sturridge appears to be reaching match fitness at the perfect time, and the forward’s odds of heading to France have been slashed from 4/7 to 1/7.

And as for Rashford, after a meteoric rise since making his Manchester United debut in February, the 18-year-old is 1/4 to make the finals squad, following a goal on his international debut versus Australia.

While Rashford dominated the backpages, Sturridge enjoyed a fine run to the end of the season, netting eight times in 15 games from March 10, including a stunner in the Europa League final.

Everton’s Ross Barkley is 8/11 to be in the squad for France, leaving Andros Townsend and Danny Drinkwater the outsiders at 6/5 and 11/8 respectively.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Rashford’s magical rags-to-riches rise this year is set to go international, as Roy looks to take five strikers to France.”

The Three Lions are 8/1 to win this summer’s tournament, and Hodgson’s side begin their challenge against Russia on June 11 in Marseille.

England are 17/20 favourites for the match, with Rashford 9/2 to net the opener, just as he did at the Stadium of Light on Friday evening.

Sturridge is 22/1 to be Group B’s top goalscorer, with Rashford 25/1.
