Arsenal joint favourites for Capital One Cup after third-round draw

Published:

Arsenal have been given the easiest draw of the big guns entering the Capital One Cup at the third round stage and as a result are joint favourites to win the competition.

The Gunners have been priced up at 6/1 with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City and should have little trouble in the third round at home to League One Coventry.

Man City do not have it as easy as they are involved in one of five all Premier League fixtures, although they will fancy their chances of advancing past Aston Villa.

Rivals Manchester United also have a home draw, but are no bankers against Newcastle, especially if Sir Alex Ferguson decides against fielding a full-strength side.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last three outings with Man Utd and earned a draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool will get the chance of some quick revenge as they have been pitted away to West Brom, a fixture they lost 3-0 on the opening day of this season.

West Ham are at home to Wigan in another of the all Premier League ties, along with Reading’s trip to QPR.

Lower down the draw, a League Two club will definitely be in the fourth round as Bradford entertain Burton, while Middlesbrough have been drawn away for the tenth successive time at Preston.

From a betting perspective, Tottenham may stand out as cup winners at 9/1 after they were picked out to travel to Carlisle.

All games will be played during the week which commences September 24th.
