Czech Republic v Denmark betting tips and preview

Not many would have forecast Czech Republic and Denmark to be fighting it out for a place in the semi-finals but that’s what’s at stake in Baku on Saturday.

The Czechs took full advantage of the 55th-minute dismissal of defender Matthijs de Ligt in securing a 2-0 victory against Netherlands while Denmark were impressive during a crushing 4-0 win against Wales.

The Danes are 11/10 favourites to win inside 90 minutes, so let’s check out some of the other odds and markets in our Czech Republic v Denmark betting tips.

Match Odds

The Czechs only finished in third place in England’s group but are 11/8 to qualify for the semi-finals for a fifth time after goals from Tomas Holes and Patrik Schick sealed an impressive win against the Dutch, albeit against 10 men.

Jaroslav Silhavy’s side were 21/5 outsiders to cause an upset but De Ligt saw red when he was adjudged to have prevented a goalscoring opportunity with his hand following a VAR review – and the rest is history.

Denmark looked to be down and out when their opening match against Finland was overshadowed by Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest but went through in second place with one win and two defeats following a 4-1 victory against Russia in their final group game.

The Danes then became the first team to score four goals in consecutive matches in finals history with a 4-0 triumph over the Welsh and are 14/5 to win and over 2.5 match goals.

Five of the last six encounters between these nations from 2006-16 have ended all square and another draw is available at 21/10 while the Czechs are 12/1 to go through in extra time, with Kasper Hjulmand’s side 9/1. Both teams are 10/1 to win on penalties.

Denmark were also up inside 30 minutes against Belgium and Wales, so we make them 14/5 to be in front after half an hour while the Czechs to win either half are 7/5, which they have achieved in three of their four matches.

Talking Tactics

The Czechs lined up in a 4-1-4-1 on Sunday when Holes was superb sat in front of the back four and they are likely to play the same formation against Denmark.

Kasper Dolberg replaced Youssuf Poulsen up front in a 3-4-2-1 system against Wales and bagged the first two goals to make it three for the tournament, so he is likely to retain his place.

Goalscorer Odds

Dolberg and Poulsen are 9/2 co-favourites to get the opening goal and 5/2 to find the net but the former looks the most likely to start so it’s probably best to avoid the RB Leipzig striker.

Midfielder Joakim Maehle has scored in his last two games and is 11/2 to strike again or 11/1 to make the breakthrough.

Schick now has four goals at Euro 2020 and is 9/2 third favourite to win the Golden Boot, so we make the Czech striker 5/1 to bag the opener or 14/5 in the anytime goalscorer market.
