Crystal Palace v Aston Villa betting tips: Can Eagles capitalise on tired Villans?

| 15.05.2021

There is little riding on Sunday’s Premier League match but we have picked out some interesting markets for our Crystal Palace v Aston Villa betting tips.

Villa were looking good for a European place earlier in the season but the loss of England midfielder Jack Grealish has left them struggling to finish in the top half of the table.

Dean Smith’s side are the 27/20 favourites to repeat their 3-0 Boxing Day victory over the Eagles, who are 2/1 to win their 12th game of the season.

Match Odds

Aston Villa were in action against Everton on Thursday night and with this game kicking off at midday on Sunday, there is little time for Smith’s team to recover.

Seven of Villa’s last eight matches have produced goals at both ends and a repeat is available at 4/6 while we go 20/23 on over 2.5 goals which was the case in all but one of those games.

The midlanders have been better on the road than at home this season, winning eight times, five of which were by a one-goal margin which can be backed at 3/1.

Palace have lost four of their last five games and have scored just one first-half goal in their last six home games, so we have them available at 4/7 not to score in the first 45 minutes.

Interestingly, Villa have taken the lead in three of their previous six games and lost, with Palace priced at 14/1 to win from behind.

Talking Tactics

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson deployed a 4-3-3 formation in the 2-0 win at Sheffield United and kept faith with the system in this week’s 3-1 defeat at Southampton where they took a second-minute lead.

Gary Cahill was left on the bench at St Mary’s but the former Chelsea centre-back could return to the heart of the defence.

Villa were boosted by the return of Grealish at Goodison Park following a 12-game absence although he was onky good enough for a20 minutes off the bench, but he may get more minutes at Selhurst Park.

Goalscorer Odds

Christian Benteke has scored in the second minute in his last two games and is 5/1 to break the deadlock for a third successive match, with Palace available at 9/1 to score in the first 10 minutes.

Benteke is 2/1 to get on the scoresheet but Wilfried Zaha is the favourite in this market at 13/8 despite finding the net just once in his last 10 Premier League games.

Ollie Watkins, back from suspension, is Villa’s top scorer with 13 goals and is 9/2 to draw first blood or 9/5 to find the net while Bertrand Traore is 15/2 to bag the opener or 3/1 to score.

Traore opened the scoring in the win against Palace this season and in the recent 3-1 defeat by Manchester United.
