It’s an annual tradition that the final day of the Championship is filled with twists, turns, drama and much more besides.

The regular season draws to a close this week, with promotion, play-off and relegation scraps still to be decided.

And as we reach the campaign’s close, it’s time to consider who has been the Championship’s best player.

A whole host of players are worthy of a mention in this debate, and we’ve picked out four of those right here…

Said Benrahma – Brentford

Brentford’s Algerian maestro is hotly tipped for a Premier League move sooner rather than later, and it’s no wonder why after the season he’s had.

Benrahma has been at the heart of Brentford’s scintillating forward play this season, racking up 17 goals in addition to eight assists.

Kalvin Phillips – Leeds

We’ve got to have a Leeds player in here somewhere, haven’t we? And though we could choose any number from Marcelo Bielsa’s title-winners, we’ve giving the nod to Kalvin Phillips.

The midfielder has played a massive role in the middle of the park, keeping Leeds ticking along week-in week-out.  No team gets far in the Championship without real composure and solidity in the middle, and Leeds have exactly that in Phillips.

Eberechi Eze – QPR

While QPR haven’t enjoyed a sterling season, midfield genius Eberechi Eze certainly has. The midfielder has conjured up 13 goals and eight assists for Rangers, all the while bamboozling Championship defenders on a weekly basis with his mazy runs and quick feet.

The future looks bright for Eze, whose importance to the Rs can’t be understated, – he’s started all 45 matches so far this season, missing less than 90 minutes of game-time.

Matheus Pereira – West Brom

Like Leeds, West Bromwich Albion have been promotion contenders right from the start, and wing-wizard Matheus Pereira has been a large part of the Baggies’ success.

The attacking midfield has set up 20 of West Brom’s goals this term, while also chipping in with eight himself. He’s quickly become a fan favourite and West Brom’s decision to make Pereira’s loan move from Sporting permanent looks to be a shrewd move.
