Top of the table Queens Park Rangers improve attacking options

Rob Hulse and Tommy Smith will arrive in London today to finalise their deals as Queens Park Rangers made a late surge on transfer deadline day.

The deals are subject to clearance by the Football League due to the lateness of the moves but everything is expected to go through as QPR hope to keep up their challenge at the top of the Championship.

30-year-old Smith signed from Portsmouth for £1.5m and the wingers experience in the Championship, along with his ability to provide and score goals, is proven and QPR boss Neil Warnock will hope he can create the chances for Hulse to finish.

Spanish forward Alberto Bueno’s arrival at Derby yesterday paved the way for Hulse to leave amid rumours the 30-year-old’s contract would not be renewed come the end of the season as Derby struggle with their finances.

Hulse has been the Rams leading scorer in the past two seasons and Rangers fans will hope he can bring his scoring prowess to the capital as they challenge for the Championship title, for which they are 4/1 to win.

Hulse is also a 50/1 chance to be the Championship’s top scorer and whilst that may not have been likely at Derby, QPR’s early season form lends itself to a high scoring season where Hulse could benefit and 50/1 seems a big price.

Warnock is targeting a return to the Premier League ever since his acrimonious departure from Sheffield United and this QPR side will be challenging at the end of the season.

QPR’s main rivals could turn out to be Cardiff City and they are 9/2 to win the Championship. See the latest Championship football betting markets here.
