QPR may be the clear favourites to win the Championship this season at 5/1, but it is not totally beyond the realms of possibility that they follow Wolves in falling to back-to-back relegations, starting from the Premier League.
The Championship odds have QPR as rank outsiders to be relegated and their squad this season is likely to be virtually unrecognisable to that which finished bottom of the Premier League.
Many of that squad will be on bumper pay packets that are unsustainable in the Championship, while certain players will be devoid of morale in having to play in the second tier.
Goalkeeper Julio Cesar is almost certain to leave, the likes of Jose Bosingwa and Chris Samba are defenders that are on extortionate wages for Championship level and virtually the whole strike force will change.
Djibril Cisse could go to France or Qatar, Adel Taarabt will fancy his chances elsewhere and Loic Remy is being targeted by Newcastle, while DJ Campbell, Jay Bothroyd and Rob Hulse have already been let go.
Blackburn were relegated from the top flight with a strong squad by Championship standards for the last campaign, but only escaped the drop by four points and this was despite having Jordan Rhodes at their disposal, who is as regular a scorer of goals at this level as anyone.
Wolves lost their best two players last summer and despite making over £20m for Steven Fletcher and Matt Jarvis, they were relegated with the bulk of their Premier League squad still intact.
The key for Harry Redknapp will be to conduct as much transfer business as he can early, both in terms of shifting players that don’t want to be at the club and bringing in new faces that do have the motivation to help them return to the Premier League.
If this fails to happen and Redknapp is left with a squad of unmotivated players, they could find themselves closer to the foot of the table than the top.
