Derby’s Scottish international Kris Commons has cast doubt over his future at the club.
His contract expires at the end of the year and discussions have yet to take place about a new one.
Commons has been a constant for the Midlands club in midfield this year, starting nine of their ten games.
He’s also their top scorer with five goals, including two in their recent 3-1 win over Middlesborough.
Such is Common’s goal scoring form, he’s been made 25/1 to end the year as the Championship’s top goal scorer, ahead of David Nugent, Michael Chopra and Robert Earnshaw, who are all 33/1.
The midfielder has made it clear he wants to stay at Derby, but says he doesn’t have a say in whether he’s awarded a new deal.
“The decision is not in my hands,” said Common’s, “I’m sure I will be the last to know but it needs sorting as soon as possible.”
Commons struggled with injury last season, making only 11 starts in the whole campaign, but had been a consistent performer the year before with 34 appearances.
He remains committed to the Rams though and would like a new deal.
“Of course I do [want to stay] as it’s one of the best places to play football and we are on the up” he said.
Commons will be looking to add to his goal tally this weekend as his team host Preston in a game they are expected to win.
The Rams are marked at 1/1 to get three points, with Preston given a slim 11/4 of grabbing a win.
North End have been playing well recently though, unbeaten in their last three and still full of confidence after coming back from 4-1 down to beat Leeds 6-4.
Derby though are without defeat in four games, have scored eight in their last three matches and will have their eyes fixed on a win.
It’s 25/1 for Derby to claim a 3-2 win over Preston. Follow the full NPower Championship betting odds market here.
