Aston Villa now odds-on favourites to sign West Ham target Hogan

West Ham have reportedly ended their interest in Brentford striker Scott Hogan. But Bees fans won’t be breathing a sigh of relief just yet, as Aston Villa are now the surprise new favourites for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Our traders make it just a 1/4 shot that the forward joins Steve Bruce at Villa Park before the January transfer window slams shut tonight.

And that deal would likely see Ross McCormack heading out of Birmingham, with a whole host of clubs keeping an eye on developments.

The Villans are reportedly willing to spend around £10m for Hogan’s services, and he’d be their fifth signing this month.

And should the Midlands outfit part ways with said fee, it would take their total spend for the season to just shy of £65m – an astronomical amount given their current position.

After being relegated from the Premier League last campaign, Villa now find themselves in 13th place in the Championship, some 24 points off league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

Only four sides in the division have scored fewer than Bruce’s men. But should a move for Scott Hogan go ahead, Aston Villa would go a long way towards rectifying that goalscoring issue.

And at odds of 1/4, it’s looking likely that a deal gets done today.

What do fans think? Is Hogan the right man to help Villa in their promotion push?
