Championship betting tips: Leeds to remain at the top?
After a three-month hiatus, Championship football restarts with automatic promotion and play-off places up for grabs in the race to be in the Premier League next season.
Leeds United lead the way with a one-point advantage over West Bromwich Albion heading into the weekend.
But the Baggies can move into top spot – temporarily at least – with a win over Birmingham on Saturday before Leeds play Cardiff on Sunday.
Fulham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest will all aim to close the gap on the top two with some mouth-watering fixtures to enjoy over the weekend between the play-off contenders.
You can watch the action on Sky Sports until the end of the season, including the Play-Offs and Play-Off Final from Wembley.
Fulham v Brentford (Sat, 12:30)
What a game to get us started! Both sides are on course for the play-offs but despite Fulham being four points clear of the Bees, it’s Brentford who kick-off as 31/20 favourites.
Fulham had lost just one of their last eleven games before the enforced break and are 7/4 to take all three points at Craven Cottage.
A cagey affair is expected, a draw is 11/5 with three of Fulham’s last seven matches finishing 1-1. A repeat of that scoreline on Saturday is 5/1 with both teams to score 8/11.
Championship top scorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic is 7/2 to score first with 22-goal Ollie Watkins 17/10 to score anytime for the visitors.
West Brom v Birmingham (Sat, 15:00)
It’s a Midlands Derby at the Hawthorns and West Brom will look to move a step closer to automatic promotion with three points against their local rivals.
The Baggies’ form slipped in recent fixtures, but the break has given them time to regroup as they start as 2/3 favourites against Birmingham (4/1).
The reverse fixture saw West Brom snatch al three points in a five-goal thriller at St. Andrews. A Charlie Austin double helped Slaven Bilic’s side steal the points that day.
Austin is 7/1 to score two or more with over 2.5 goals in the match priced at 3/4.
For Birmingham, Scott Hogan is 9/4 to score anytime with Lukas Jutkiewicz 13/2 to score first in the match.
Cardiff City v Leeds United (Sun, 12:00)
The pressure in on Leeds as they aim to make their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
The visitors start as 2/3 favourites in south Wales with Marcelo Bielsa’s men having won their last five consecutive games.
Cardiff (4/1) are still in with a shout of the play-offs and they will be buoyed by their record against the league leaders which has seen them remain unbeaten against the Whites since 2016.
However, Leeds haven’t conceded a single goal in 515 minutes of football and they are 9/5 to beat Cardiff to nil.
Earlier in the season, Leeds squandered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Elland Road against the Bluebirds. A draw is priced at 11/4.
Best of the rest
Millwall (11/8) versus Derby (11/5) is another battle between two clubs vying for a top six spot. Heading into the weekend, just six points separates sixth from 13th as eighth take on twelfth in London.
Nottingham Forest are 7/4 outsiders when they travel to midtable Sheffield Wednesday (31/20). Forest will aim to put breathing space between themselves and the rest of the play-off pack.
At the bottom, Hull City (6/5) take on Charlton (11/5) with the Addicks looking to leapfrog their opponents with a win. The Tigers are without a league win since New Year’s Day and Lee Bowyer will hope to take advantage.
