Tottenham look set to qualify for the Champions League having been drawn with Swiss side Young Boys in a play-off for a place in Europe’s premier club competition.
Tottenham will play at Berne’s Stade de Suisse on either 17th or 18th August before welcoming Young Boys to White Hart Lane on 24th or 25th August.
And while Young Boys claimed a remarkable 1-0 away win against Fenerbahce in the previous round of qualifying, Tottenham will be relieved to avoid the likes of Dynamo Kiev and Sampdoria.
Harry Redknapp’s men are 33/1 to win the Champions League, and they could hardly have wished for a kinder passage to the group stage.
The most mouth-watering tie is the clash between Werder Bremen (66/1 to win the Champions League) and Sampdoria, who were unseeded despite their fourth place finish in last season’s Serie A.
Tottenham will be delighted to have avoided La Samp, and they will be equally pleased that the seeding system kept them apart from Zenit St Petersburg.
80/1 Champions League contenders Zenit have been splashing the cash this summer, and new arrivals Aleksandar Lukovic and Bruno Alves are excellent additions to the 2008 UEFA Cup winners’ squad.
Celtic conquerors Braga face the daunting task of taking on Spanish giants Sevilla, while Rosenborg will face Copenhagen in a Scandinavian derby.
